The Women's Wing of NACDA-NA was birth on August 30th, 2011, with 13 women from 6 States (IN, GA, MN, DC, CA, OR) in attendance. Nkeum Mengye Mercy Forfeke initiated it through Nkeum Mengye Ma Lucy Mbangwana, who was visiting the USA.
The group's focus has been the empowerment of the Awing Woman and girl child both at home in Awing and abroad (here in the United States). Since its inception, the group has grown exponentially in almost ten years, from 13 members to over a hundred. The women come together once every month through conference calls or recently zoom, during which they deliberate on their projects and the group's growth. Their commitment is so strong that they have never failed to have a monthly meeting.
The women have carried out projects ranging from supporting financially towards the construction and completion of the Women's Center in Awing and donating sewing machines for use in the center. Over the years include; renovation of an adopted room in the Palace, donating chairs and tables to a secondary school, donating necessary medical supplies to the village's health facilities, and donating food items and necessities to the women in the village.
The projects have been limited to Awing as the NACDA-NA Women's Wing saw the great need to reach out and donated to the disaster relief fund following the hurricane Maria disaster that struck Puerto Rico in the USA.
The Women though scattered all over the USA and Canada, are a tight-knit family. They exhibit being their sister's keeper by being there for one another in good and sad times.
